On Wednesday evening, 19th June, Sheila Maidment and Kevin Deal were sworn in as our Churchwardens, at a service led by the Archdeacon for Horsham Deaconry, Ven. Angela Martin.
(Officially, the service is called a ‘Visitation’, and the Churchwardens are ‘admitted’ to their office for the coming year.)
We tend to forget that being a Churchwarden is a legal role…they are legally responsible for the church, its buildings and possessions…as the Bishop’s representatives. It’s a big deal!
We’re very grateful to Sheila and Kevin for taking this on, especially as we go into vacancy, where the full weight of what happens really does fall on their shoulders. Any of our previous Churchwardens who went through vacancies can tell you it is not an easy time…
It was really lovely to be able to share this with Beverley in the week of her retirement; one of her final acts with us being to stand with those who will carry us through in her absence.
Steve and Gaynor were there in support of their spouses, but cleverly managed to dodge the photos!
Please remember to keep our Churchwardens in your prayers, and to support them as much as you can.
