Scarecrow Success!

At the March session of Funday Monday at St Augustine’s Church the children had a great time making a scarecrow to enter into the Flower Show at the Millennium Village Centre. Every year Scaynes Hill Cricket Club sponsors this class and the winners receive the Scaynes Hill Cricket Club Trophy.  Could we possibly win the cup?

As the show was so close to Easter the idea was to create an Easter Bunny scarecrow. Fortunately, we had a good, strong framework to start with and once the scarecrow was dressed in dungarees and checked shirt the fun began of stuffing the scarecrow with straw. A pillow case head followed with a bunny face drawn on and somehow the scarecrow began to look like a rabbit. Bunny ears poking through a straw hat, a white fluffy tail, basket of eggs and spring flowers provided the finishing touches.  She was ready to go!

We called her Beena Bunny and she looked good standing on the stage at the Millennium Centre with the other scarecrow entrants. How would she do in the competition? When the show opened we were all delighted to see a “Ist “ sign beside Beena  – she had done it! We were so excited when the silver cup was presented and there were some Easter treats for the winning group to share. Do look out for our photograph in Lindfield Life.  A big thank you to everyone who helped to make our Easter Bunny scarecrow.

Beena came to say hello to St Augustine’s Church family on Sunday and she will be with us till our Easter Activity Morning on Monday 8th April after which she will be off to the cricket ground to start work. It’s a scarecrow’s life…

Thank you Jenny Walker!
