Churchwardens’ Report

May 2010

The church looked resplendent with lilies and spring flowers on Easter morning as we gathered to celebrate the joy of the resurrection. Many thanks to Sheila and her helpers. Congratulations to Corey Drew Robinson, who was baptised and welcomed into the church family.

At the Annual Parochial Church meeting Ursula Brunei stood down as churchwarden. Sue Welland was re-elected and Lynne Watkins agreed to be elected once a new treasurer has been appointed.

Lynne presented the accounts which are in a new format now that the PCC is a registered charity and the Trustees are the members of the PCC. Lynne particularly thanked everyone for their generous response to the Stewardship Sunday appeal last year.

During the year the new lay-by had been constructed in preparation for the building of the annexe. Inside the church a new gas-fired heating system had been installed with smart new radiators replacing the old cast-iron pipes.

Tom told us about the flourishing children and youth groups. The home groups have also grown and are in an important part of our church life. The church electoral roll now stands at one hundred and thirty.

If you would like to know more, please take a copy of the annual report and accounts from the back of the church. Looking ahead we shall be holding a number of fund raising events for the annexe project. We have had Amazing Grace which was well attended and on Saturday 15th May there will be a classical concert in church at 7.30 pm, with music by Mozart, Schubert, Beethoven and Brahms. Tickets will cost £10.

The Tribute Band concert will now be held in June. Nanette is still collecting recipes for the cook book, particularly if you have a special anecdote about them.

The next Riverside Fellowship will be on Tuesday 18th May at 10.15 am in the church. The next women’s breakfast will be on Saturday 29th May at 8.30 am in the church. The speaker will be from Lee Abbey.
