Churchwardens’ Report
April 2009
At the end of February a very lively and appreciative New Members Evening was held at the Vicarage. These occasional happenings provide a valuable opportunity to meet and get to know those who have more recently moved into the parish. The Lent Groups are now meeting in the run up to Easter. There has been a good response to the Alpha Course which is now currently meeting in the Village Club on Monday evenings - our thanks to Mike and Di Harding for organising this and to the willing weekly caterers.
The speaker at our monthly Kairos service was Jeremy Taylor, the Diocesan Director of Education, who took as his title "Volvo Ergo Sum", and challlenged us in a lively session on our driving and use of the car. Like all good sermons and Gaul it was divided into three parts - The law, which applies to driving as well as other areas of life, but is not always easy to comply with particularly with the myriad number of speed limits; Consideration for other road users; Our carbon footprint when we automatically leap into our car to drive a very short walking distance, or should we take the train for our continental holiday instead of flying. All food for thought as we drive around the countryside!
On Maundy Thursday 9th April, there will be the usual Supper in the Church (7.00 pm. for 7.30 pm). This is a significant event and an opportunity to join in fellowship over a meal on the eve of Good Friday. There is a list on the table at the back of the church - please sign it if you wish to partake.
More dates for food - Mike Harding has arranged two more of his popular Mens' Breakfasts so please put these dates in your diary:
Saturday 4th April at The Sloop when the speaker will be Jeremy Taylor who will bring interesting and lively insights to his subject. Saturday 6th June at Cafe Rouge, Haywards Heath when Sir Peter Woodhead, of Falklands war fame, will be the speaker. Both these breakfasts promise to be very interestting and we commend them to you. For those who have not attended before, they start at 8.30 am. and finish by 10.00 am. Please sign the forms at the back of the church if you wish to attend.
Now that spring is here (hopefully!) and we see the crocuses flowering it is a good time to thank Brian Sitford for all the hard work he puts into maintainning the church garden throughout the year. Thank you Brian, well done, and not forgetting Dennis who we know still lends a hand.
We look forward to seeing and welcoming you at our Easter services.
With best wishes,
Alan and Sue
