Churchwardens’ Report
July — August 2008
Following last month’s announcement of Mark’s appointment as Prebend of Colworth, we can confirm that the installation ceremony will take place during the 3.30 pm service of Evensong in Chichester Cathedral on Saturday 12th July. It promises to be a colourful occasion as we shall be joined by twenty-one Bishops from overseas who are in the country for the Lambeth Conference. Through the generosity of Bishop John and Mrs Hind, we have been invited to tea after the service in the Bishop’s palace. If you would like to attend please sign the list at the back of the Church. We are in the process of trying to organise a coach and expect the cost to be in the region of £8 to £9.
At the June Kairos service Mark talked about the problems facing the Anglican Church today and what the future may have in store.
Tapestry Teas are now well under way; these are always an enjoyable occasion and if you have never heard the talk about the tapestry and the seven mysteries of St John’s Gospel you are welcome to come along. All the dates are advertised in the magazine.
Lynne Watkins gave the Riverside Fellowship an excellent talk on Family Support Work (FSW), including the way in which its role has developed over time. The Annual General Meeting will be held in the Scaynes Hill Village Centre on Tuesday 1st July. It is open to all and will start with a cream tea at 4.00 pm with the meeting starting at 6.00 pm.
Several events involving food will be taking place this month, including men’s and women’s breakfast meetings. The Bishop of Cameroon will preach at our Patronal Festival on 13th July and on the same evening we have been invited to West Hoathly for their Patronal Festival which will be folllowed by refreshments. There will be a Teddy Bear’s Picnic at the Vicarage on 19th July and the following day all members of the congregation are invited to the Vicarage at 7.00 pm for drinks and nibbles to celebrate Tom and Emily’s marriage. All dates and times are in the diary.
We wish all of you going on holiday good weather and an enjoyable time.
