Mark Payne

After studying at Durham University (Van Mildert College) and Ridley Hall (Cambridge), Mark Payne served his curacy at St. Margaret’s Angmering in the Diocese of Chichester. He was appointed Diocesan Evangelist in 1999 and in 2001 became advisor for work with children and young people in the diocese. Mark was appointed Priest in Charge of St. Augustine’s in October 2004.
As well as being our parish priest he is secretary to the Diocesan Overseas Council and co-ordinates the partnerships that Chichester Diocese has with the Anglican Church in The Gambia, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Cameroon, Liberia and Kenya. Nationally he is a member of the General Synod and a member of the Anglican Communion and World Mission Panel for the Church of England.
In 2008 he was invited by the Bishop of Chichester to be a Prebendary (Canon) of Chichester Cathedral, and was installed as such, with the title Canon of Colworth, on 12th July 2008. In January 2009 he also became St Augustine Canon of the Diocese of Cameroon at a service in Douala Cathedral.
